EXPERIENCE
Vigo is not only a city with spectacular urban and natural scenery, but also one of the most active audiovisual centres in Galicia and Spain. Over the last few decades, it has served as the setting for a wide variety of films, series and international projects, consolidating its reputation thanks to its urban locations, ports, historic neighbourhoods and coastlines, which offer great versatility for filming.
One of the most notable films shot in Vigo was “Los lunes al sol” (Fernando León de Aranoa, 2002), starring Javier Bardem and Luis Tosar. The film, which addresses the crisis of industrial restructuring and unemployment, was shot in many recognisable corners of the city, such as the port, the Berbés neighbourhood, Coia and Teis, and shows the real landscape of a city marked by its industrial history.
In recent years, Vigo has also attracted major television productions. For example, Bambú Producciones’ ‘Un asunto privado’ (Amazon Prime Video, 2022) was filmed mainly in Vigo and Pontevedra, with scenes showing iconic streets such as Policarpo Sanz, the Collegiate Church, the García Barbón theatre and the Bouzas neighbourhood, reflecting the urban vitality of the city.
Another notable title is A Man of Action (Netflix, 2022), which was filmed in various locations in Vigo, including areas of Casco Vello and the port, which were transformed to set scenes from decades past.
In addition, Vigo has continued to add recent projects: in 2024, feature films such as ‘Romería’, directed by Carla Simón, were filmed in the old town and the Plaza de Almeida, and several new series and films continue to choose the city as a set thanks to its audiovisual infrastructure, institutional support and diversity of locations.
In fact, in 2025, the mayor highlighted that the city hosted more than 40 film shoots in a single year, including series such as Ágata y Lola, documentaries, adverts and audiovisual projects that are generating employment and boosting the local economy.
This accumulation of productions shows that Vigo has become a filmmaking hub in northern Spain, capable of attracting both major platforms and international projects, offering authentic settings and logistical support to creators from around the world.
